What is a day master?

日主 (ri zhu), sometimes 日元 (ri yuan), is the single character a whole reading is organised around. Everything else in a chart is described by how it relates to that stem: what feeds it, what it controls, what controls it. Someone born on a 丙 (bing) day has a yang Fire day master, and that is what people mean when they say they are a Fire person in this tradition.
