Is Gilsung private?
Yes, and by construction rather than by promise. There is no account, no phone number, and no server of ours anywhere. Your birth date, time and place, the people you save, your chart and every reading built from it are created and kept on your phone. We never receive them, so we cannot read, search, sell or lose them. The App Store privacy label reads "Data Not Collected," because there is nothing for us to collect.
Do I have to pay a fortune teller? What does it cost?
You never talk to anyone. There are no fortune tellers, no per-minute billing or calls, no coins, no hearts and nothing to recharge. That is the main way Gilsung differs from the popular saju and 八字 apps, which mostly sell you readings or time with a person.
Your four pillars and the day master reading are free. Your daily reading is free. Compatibility between two people, and auspicious-day guidance for something you are planning, are optional one-time purchases. There is no subscription and nothing to cancel.
Does Gilsung work offline?
Yes, completely. Every calculation and every reading happens on your device, so the app works with no connection at all. It makes no network call to us, because there is nothing on our side to call.
When does the year begin? My chart differs from another app.
The BaZi year begins at lichun, around 4 February, and not at Lunar New Year. This is the single most common source of a wrong year pillar, and an app that uses Lunar New Year will disagree with Gilsung for anyone born in that window. Months follow the sectional solar terms rather than lunar months.
Two more places charts diverge. The hour pillar uses true local solar time, not clock time, so a birth far from its time zone's meridian can land in a different hour branch. And a birth after 23:00 falls in the late-zi hour, which rolls the day pillar to the next day. Gilsung handles all three, and tells you which convention it used.
Does Gilsung recommend talismans, charms or remedies?
No, and this is deliberate rather than an omission. Gilsung recommends and sells no talismans, charms, remedies, rituals or name changes, and it never puts something to buy next to a difficult reading. Manufacturing a worry and then selling the cure is the oldest pattern in this business, and the app is built so the adjacency never exists.
Does it tell me whether two people are compatible?
It shows you the comparison and refuses the verdict. Compatibility is read in two layers: the inner match from the two day pillars, and the outer match from the year pillars. You see what each layer is doing. Gilsung will not tell you a match is good or bad, or that anyone should or should not marry.
What about a hard year, or a difficult luck pillar?
It will say so, in terms of pace. A demanding season is named as demanding, because a reading that only ever flatters is not reading your chart. But it is written as what the season asks of you and what it tends to favour, never as doom, never as a judgement about you, and never as a reason to buy something. Traditional terms keep their real names; the sentence is what changes.
Is this BaZi, or saju, or Shichu Suimei?
The same tradition under its own names, and Gilsung writes each language in its own vocabulary rather than translating the Chinese. Japanese readers get 日干 and 通変星 where Chinese has 日主 and 十神. Korean readers get 일간 and 십성. Traditional Chinese is written for Taiwan and Hong Kong rather than converted character by character from Simplified.
Which languages does Gilsung speak?
Seven: English, 한국어, 日本語, 简体中文, 繁體中文, ไทย and Bahasa Indonesia.
Is this prediction, or reflection?
Reflection. Gilsung does not tell you what will happen, does not pass judgement on a person, and does not treat a chart as a fixed fate. It reads what the pillars are doing and leaves the decision with you.
